BMW Warning Lights

BMW Factory

When a dashboard warning light illuminates, your vehicle is either alerting you to issues or notifying you that a system is active and operating properly. Even if a non-urgent indicator appears during your drive in Shawnee, you should be aware of it and know the appropriate action to take.

If you drive a BMW vehicle, you can find information on all of the BMW warning lights and indicators in the BMW Driver’s Guide app or your owner’s manual. The BMW Driver’s Guide app offers complete support on all BMW models from 2012 and partial support for older models. Alternatively, you can contact the service department at Baron BMW, and we can help you figure out the meaning of a particular BMW dashboard warning light.

To get a better idea of some general warning lights you might see in your car, read on and discover some common examples and their meaning.

Dashboard Warning Light Examples

Take a moment to go over the following indicators that are commonly found in most vehicles:

Engine Warning Lights

  • Coolant Temp Warning: If your coolant levels are low, your fan isn’t working properly, or if coolant is leaking, this light will illuminate.
  • Service Vehicle: This light typically indicates an electrical issue.
  • Reduced Power Warning: If you see this, you need to have the engine serviced, as there’s some part of it that’s malfunctioning.
  • Cruise Control: When you use cruise control on the roads of Grandview, MO, this light will stay illuminated as long as the system is on.

Brake System Warning Lights

  • Brake System: This light indicates an issue with your brakes, such as low brake fluid or an ABS problem.
  • Traction Control or ESP: This light indicates that your vehicle’s electronic stability system is engaged.

Safety & Informative Warning Lights

  • Security Alert: If your ignition switch is locked or a door is left ajar, this light will indicate either a tech malfunction or alert you to the open door.
  • Fog Lamp: This reminds you when you have your brights on.
  • Airbag Fault: Normally, this light appears once the car has been started to indicate there’s a fault in the airbag system, and you’ll need to bring your vehicle in for a repair.
  • Washer Fluid Reminder: This means your washer fluid is low and needs to be replaced.

Tire Warning Lights

  • Tire Pressure Warning Light: The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) has detected that one or more of your tires has a tire pressure rating that’s too low or too high. You should have your tires’ PSI adjusted to the recommended levels as soon as possible to avoid complications.
